DAY 1 - Arriving in Vancouver
Upon arrival in Vancouver, transfer to your selected downtown hotel (transfer not included). Transfers are available by scheduled airporter service, limousine or taxi. Later today, you may wish to visit 'The Lookout Tower' located in downtown, for a panoramic view of the city, mountains and harbour.
DAY 2 - Flight from Vancouver to Prince Rupert
After a free morning in downtown Vancouver to explore, transfer (included) on a scheduled service back to the Vancouver International Airport and then to the South Terminal in the late afternoon. From there, you will fly from Vancouver to Prince Rupert to start your vacation. The remainder of your day is free for you to explore this quaint seaside town.
DAY 3 and 4 - VIA Rail's 'Skeena' to Prince George and Jasper
From waterways to railways ... a morning boarding of VIA Rail's 'Skeena' begins your discovery of northern British Columbia's forested landscape. Take advantage of the Skyline Car with its 360 degree views from the dome or the casual atmosphere of the lounge car below as the train gently weaves and winds its way to Prince George. The next morning, continue on your rail journey aboard the "Skeena." You may see bald eagles, black bears or moose from the windows of the train. Arriving into Jasper this afternoon, a transfer will be waiting to shuttle you to your hotel.
DAY 5 - Exploring Jasper
Jasper, fascinating in beauty and history, is set amid some of the most rugged peaks in the Rockies. Visit Maligne Lake, one of the most photographed lakes in the world, and enjoy a 90-minute cruise heading toward the south end of this postcard setting (included). You will marvel at the magnificent shoreline with dense forest and glacial peaks rising abruptly from the water's edge. Stopping at Spirit Island, you will have the opportunity to take your own version of the world-famous photograph of the lake. (Cruise included June 1- September 30 only).
DAY 6 - Visiting the Columbia Icefield
Today, you will travel along the beautiful Icefields Parkway, one of the most spectacular highways in North America. You will stop at one of the most interesting and accessible icefields in the world - the Columbia Icefield and the Athabasca Glacier. The Athabasca Glacier is part of the Columbia Icefield, the greatest mass of ice outside the Arctic Circle. Time is allowed for a ride on a specially constructed 'Ice Explorer' onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier. In the afternoon, return to Jasper for the night.
DAY 7 - VIA Rail's 'Canadian' from Jasper to Vancouver
After a free morning to explore Jasper on your own, a scheduled transfer will take you from your hotel to the Jasper train station to board VIA Rail's 'Canadian' for your return trip to Vancouver in 'Silver & Blue' class. Dinner (included) will be served in the dining car while you travel through the Rockies heading westbound. Your accommodations will be in either a private (deluxe) or semi-private (moderate) sleeper. At any time during your rail journey feel free to explore the train and spend time in the lounge or dome car.
DAY 8 - Arriving in Vancouver
An early breakfast in the dining car (included) starts your day off before you arrive into Vancouver's Pacific Central Station at approximately 8:00 am. Your Skeena & Pioneer Trails vacation concludes upon arrival.
