Amtrak Travel Tips

Brock & Nola Fulton

Ted and Sylvia-

Just wanted to let you know that our trip went very well. We got back this AM around 2:00 and are catching up on many things. All of your and Brewster's arrangements went perfectly and we don't see how our compartment selection or hotel rooms could have been better (with the exception of the "A" we knew would be a little tighter).

I'm trying to think of anything we could suggest to you that would have improved things, but nothing major really comes to mind that could be routinely expected to occur. Your package was very well done and extremely helpful.

For example, right now the last train from LA to San Diego will normally have to offload passengers in Oceanside and bus them to either the Old Town transit center or the downtown San Diego station because there is work being done on the tracks. Cabs were waiting at the Old Town station so that worked just fine for us.

A few other ideas or thoughts-

At Penn Station the Amtrak employee at the ticket counter really didn't want to help us with directions on checking in for the trip to Canada. Very dismissive and wouldn't even look at me. He sent us to Track 9, but fortunately we spotted the table for Immigration right in front of the Police kiosk and checked in there. If we'd followed his directions, we would have been well down the hall and wandering around with our luggage.

In Toronto the station is very confusing - we wanted to turn in our voucher for tickets before going to the hotel. Two different Via employees sent us in the wrong direction. We could have done a better job of questioning and repeating their directions back to them.

In Toronto the check-in for first class isn't at the Panorama Lounge as in Montreal - you might tell passengers to either ask to confirm where to go or go down to the area that has a Sleeper sign.

As you can see, no complaints and just a few thoughts about it.

We normally handle our own reservations, even internationally, but with 11 different trains and several hotels, plus your knowledge of cars and cabins, your services were worth every penny. I'd recommend you to anyone.

Thanks again,
Brock & Nola Fulton
